Making pizza is an activity and dinner all in one, and it’s wonderful way to slow down and share what’s going on in our lives over a great meal. This also happens to be one of our kids favorites and their favorites to make!

Sometimes we make the dough fresh, other times I’ll double the recipe and freeze it so I can pull it out before I leave for work. This way it’s thawed and ready by the time I get home.

Here’s our simple pizza dough recipe that can be made at home in under an hour!

Ingredients (makes two medium pizzas)

  • 2 oz water for yeast 100°F
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 3 1/4 c flour
  • 1 c water
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp olive oil (plus more to coat)

Doubled recipe:

  • 1/2 c water for yeast 100°F
  • 4 and 1/2 tsp yeast
  • 6 1/2 c flour
  • 2 c water
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 6 tbsp oil (plus more to coat)

Combine the yeast with water that is 100 to 110°F. Cover and set aside.

combine pizza dough ingredients in a mixing bowl

In a large mixing bowl, combine your flour, water, salt, and oil. mix together.

Once you have mixed, add the warm activated yeast to the bowl.

Mix for five minutes in a mixer or 10 minutes by hand. The dough should begin to resist you and feel less tacky. If you feel like it’s too sticky, resist the urge to add more flour. Continue to mix and fold for another 2 mins. Then try adding flour.

Separate the dough into your desired quantity. This recipe makes two medium sized pizzas, but if you want personal sized or a huge one, that’s totally up to you!

cut the pizza dough

Lightly coat your dough in olive oil, and put it in a covered bowl on the counter and allow it to proof for at least 45 mins in a warm spot.

When the dough is finished proofing, shape it in to a circle, square, or rectangle pizza! Then add your desired toppings! Bake at 350* for 20 mins, then check every 5-7 mins.
